David A. Ogden

David A. Ogden ( born January 10, 1770 in Morristown, New Jersey, † June 9, 1829 in Montreal, Canada) was an American lawyer and politician. Between 1817 and 1819 he represented the State of New York in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

David A. Ogden was born about five years before the outbreak of the War of Independence in Morristown in Morris County. He attended King's College (now Columbia University) in New York City. Then he studied law. His admission to the bar he received in November, 1791 and then began practicing in Newark. In 1796 he was Counselor at Law in New Jersey. He moved to Hamilton (now Waddington ) in St. Lawrence County, where he continued to practice as a lawyer. Between 1811 and 1815 he was an Associate Justice (associate judge ) the Court of Common Pleas in St. Lawrence County. He sat in the years 1814 and 1815 in the New York State Assembly. Politically, he was a member of the Federalist Party.

In the congressional elections of 1816 for the 15th Congress Ogden was in the 18th electoral district of New York in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of Moss Kent on March 4, 1817. In 1818 he suffered in his re-election bid a defeat and retired after March 3, 1819 the Congress of.

He was 1820-1824 and 1825-1829 First Judge at the Court of Common Pleas. As one of the commissioners, he was responsible for defining the boundary between Canada and the United States. He died on 9 June 1829 in Montreal and was then buried in the Brookside Cemetery in Waddington.
