David Briggs (English musician)

David Briggs ( born 1 November 1962 in England ) is an English organist, composer and university teacher.

Life

At the age of 17 years, Briggs was awarded in organ competitions and received various scholarships. From 1981 to 1984 he studied at King's College, University of Cambridge. At the same time, he studied in Paris with Jean Langlais.

After finishing his studies, he accepted a position as organist in Herford, before being appointed in 1989 as organist and choirmaster at the Cathedral of Truro. In 1994 he moved to an equivalent position at the Gloucester Cathedral, where he worked until 2002.

Since then, he has concert tours traveling internationally. In addition, he has taught at Cambridge University, is a regular member of the European Church Music Festival in the international competition juries, for example in Germany, and gives master classes at various universities and conservatories in Europe and North America. He is currently Artist in Residence at St. James Cathedral in Toronto.

Briggs ' work has won many awards. He was the first British winner of the Tournemire Prize at the International Improvisation Competition in St. Alban, he also won the first prize in the International Improvisation Competition at Paisley.
