David Busst

David Busst (* June 30, 1967 in Birmingham ) is a former English footballer. Due to an injury he had to end his career at the age of 29 years and is now working at smaller clubs as a coach.

Career

The defender started his career at Moor Green, before moving in 1991 to Coventry City in the highest English league. For this club he played more than 50 games and became a solid team support. However, it was never enough for the national team.

On April 8 of 1996, David Bussts career to a tragic end. In the encounter between Manchester United and Coventry City he was injured badly in a collision with two opposing players ( Denis Irwin and Brian McClair ). He retired to open fractures of the tibia and the fibula. The game was suspended for 15 minutes because the blood had to be wiped from the lawn. Peter Schmeichel, who saw the injury at close range, even vomited on the field and was replaced himself. He and several other players had to be even psychological support after the game because of the shocking injury Bussts. The leg of David Busst was operated in the sequence 26 times, had to be amputated but not contrary to some fears. On November 6, 1996, he was on the advice of doctors end of his career known.

In honor of David Busst organized a friendly match between Coventry City and Manchester United in May 1997. He scored a penalty in front of a packed house. The penalty was inflicted more or less deliberately from Manchester United defender Gary Neville.

Later David Busst worked on the staff of Coventry City and trained smaller clubs like Evesham United and Solihull Borough. He holds several coaching licenses UEFA.
