David Gilmour is the first solo album by British musician David Gilmour, the guitarist, singer, composer and songwriter of the rock band Pink Floyd. The album was released on 25 May 1978 in England, and on 17 June 1978 in the United States.

Background

The album was recorded at Super Bear Studios in France between December 1977 and January 1978 by John Etchells and in March 1978 mixed at the same studio by Nick Griffiths. The cover was developed jointly by Hipgnosis and Gilmour.

As the only single " There's No Way Out of Here " was published, a book written by Ken Baker piece, which was originally released in 1976, produced by Gilmour Unicorn album Too Many Crooks. The single flopped in Europe, but has seen some notable successes in the U.S. market. Originally Gilmour also wanted to use the song Comfortably Numb on this album, Roger Waters ( Pink Floyd Gilmour's band mate ) could persuade him to save what song for the one year later published Pink Floyd concept album The Wall.

The plate was produced by Gilmour himself. The pieces on David Gilmour are predominantly oriented towards the blues and clearly guitar -heavy. One exception is the ballad " So Far Away" dar. The title " Mihalis " is Greek for " Michael" and was named after a possessed at that time by Gilmour yacht.

The album was released by EMI Records in Europe on August 14, 2006 Digital Remastered new. Legacy Recordings / Columbia Records released the remastered CD in the U.S. and Canada on September 12, 2006.

Title list

In 2006 a digitally reworked version of the album was released on CD, this also included each longer versions of each song as the previous releases. The length of the longer version on this issue is given in brackets.

Reception

The album reached number 17 in England and # 29 in the Billboard charts and reached gold status in the U.S. by the RIAA.
