Two pieces of plate Gilmour wrote together with the The- Who- musician Pete Townshend, the rest of the pieces he wrote alone.
Background
The album was recorded with Andrew Jackson in France. The recordings were made in a time when the future of the band Pink Floyd was unclear. The album was mixed by James Guthrie in the Mayfair Studios in London.
Guest musicians on the album were Jeff Porcaro, Pino Palladino, Deep Purple keyboardist Jon Lord and Steve Winwood. Michael Kamen was also involved in the orchestral arrangements of the album, which he carried out in the same year for Gilmour's ex- Pink Floyd colleague Roger Waters on his album The Pros and Cons of Hitch Hiking.
The album contained the disco -style single " Blue Light" and another single from the album, " Love on the Air".
About Face was re-released on 14 August 2006 in Europe as a CD with tonal revision, two of the songs were up there playing a little longer.

Unused pieces
Gilmour had written two more tunes, for which he had no text.
He therefore asked Roy Harper and regardless of Pete Townshend, if they could write for the tunes appropriate texts. Both text suggestions but did not like Gilmour. So Harper used his melody for the song " Hope " for the 1985 album with Jimmy Page on Whatever Happened to Jugula? . Townshend used his melody for the song " White City Fighting" on his solo album White City: A Novel from the year 1984.
