Run Like Hell

April 17, 1980

Run Like Hell is a song by British rock band Pink Floyd, released in 1979 on the concept album The Wall and single.

Background

The music was written by David Gilmour, the text was written by Roger Waters. The song contains the only keyboard solo of The Wall album. After the last passage sung a synthesizer solo is played instead of singing. After the solo the music is reduced: the guitar just plays with rhythmic ostinato and Echo short variations of the reef. In the play sound effects are used to create a sense of paranoia. Sounds like cruel laughter, quiet to a date, braking car tires and a loud scream support this sentiment.

As with Comfortably Numb has also the music of Run Like Hell its roots on the first solo album by David Gilmour: Short and Sweet can be seen as precursors of this song.
