Obscured by Clouds is an album by British band Pink Floyd based on their soundtrack for the French film La Vallée (directed by Barbet Schroeder ). Recorded at Chateau- d'Heuroville studios near Paris in just two weeks, some songs sound for the ratios of Pink Floyd rather rough and spontaneous. The album was released on 3 June 1972 and presented the largest ever commercial success of the band in the U.S. The song dar. Free Four in the U.S. was a hit single, the songs Obscured by Clouds When You're In and made it to the live program of the band.
With this album, the band featured for the first time a synthesizer (EMS VCS 3).
The Song Childhood's End is, according to the band inspired by the eponymous novel by the author Arthur C. Clarke.
