David Hewlett

David Ian Hewlett ( born April 18, 1968 in Redhill, United Kingdom) is a Canadian actor.

Life

Born in England, his family emigrated during his early childhood to Canada (East Coast). His father is a doctor and David himself is committed to Doctors Without Borders.

Later he visited the then Toronto 's St. George's College Choir School for Boys, where he performed in 8 mm and 16 mm films of his classmates Vincenzo Natali on (Cube, Nothing).

After leaving school he started in the late 1980s, his acting career. Hewlett founded his own computer company called Darkyl New Media, named after the horse on which he learned as a child riding. Acting-wise, he appeared in (cheap) productions of the horror genre such as The Dark Side or pin and did guest appearances on television shows such as My Secret Identity and Friday the 13th. Besides, he was also active as a computer expert for the Network Voice -Tel Canada.

1996 - after appearances in several Canadian films such as Scanners II, Desire, Hell at Sunset Motel and a small role in the television series Kung Fu - Hewlett got a bigger role in the hit Canadian series The Traders as Grant Jansky. There were a nomination for a Gemini Award. Later, he won the Golden Sheaf Award for the short film Elevated, in which he played the Security Chief.

David then moved to Los Angeles, where he was among other things a role in Emergency Room - ironically, he went after his move, for his work very often back to Canada. Also, due to three ( 2 double episodes ) episodes of Stargate SG-1.

Then, just before Atlantis, came films like Nothing ( Natali ), Foolproof Ice and Men as well as guest appearances on Without a Trace, The District and starred in the SciFi Channel films Boa vs. Python and Darklight.

When Stargate Atlantis started off, he said, was not originally for Rodney McKay, but for a different role. However, the writers and producers changed their minds and replace the planned Swedish doctor with the character of Rodney McKay. The whole thing was planned on such short notice that Hewlett itself officially part of the cast of SGA until the fourth day of shooting.

In 2007 he produced with A Dog's Breakfast his first film. In this beside him act with even his sister Kate Hewlett and Atlantis costars Paul McGillion and Rachel Luttrell and the Stargate SG -1 star Christopher Judge.

In 2011, he was next to James Franco, John Lithgow and Freida Pinto as Hunsiker in the theatrical production Planet of the Apes: As Seen Prevolution. In 2012, he was with compatriot Michelle Nolden, for Vincenzo Natali's mystery thriller Haunter in front of the camera.

He is married to Jane Loughman and has a son.
