David Marshall (footballer)

David James Marshall ( born March 5, 1985 in Glasgow ) is a Scottish football player at the position of goalkeeper. He is currently at Cardiff City in the Football League Championship active.

Marshall comes from the youth department of Celtic from Glasgow. His debut celebrated on 25 March 2004 in the second leg of the first knockout round match in the UEFA Cup against FC Barcelona at the Camp Nou. The then 19 -year-old replaced the suspended Robert Douglas and played an excellent game in which he saved a penalty from Ronaldinho, among others, and helped Celtic through to the next round. After manager Gordon Strachan undertook the Polish goalkeeper Artur Boruc, the usage times of Marshall reduced significantly.

In mid-January 2007 David Marshall was loaned to the English second division Norwich City to get more match practice. In the following season took it over Norwich City definitely. Marshall played in the episode two seasons as goalkeeper for the club from Norwich, but opted after his team's relegation to the third tier for a change of club. For £ 500,000 transfer fee, he moved to Cardiff City and thus remained in the Football League Championship. In Cardiff he was able to establish himself as a regular player and missed his team to a fourth place in the 2009/10 season promotion to the Premier League just barely. City had lost the play-off final at Wembley against Blackpool FC 2:3.
