History

Prior to April 1, 1896 called - On 20 December 1895 a government decision Svinjar - as Prior was before. The name Svinjar derived from the Croatian word ' svinja ' (= pig) and sounds more pejorative. This may have been motivation for a name change. For the origin of the name Before that, there are two explanations:

The first explanation comes from the Slavic mythology where a god is called Prior. The probability of the origin of the name Davor from this mythology is considered low because the Slavic mythology has not reached the Croats profound. Moreover, the myth of the deity Prior itself is controversial, so that it has perhaps even knew nobody in the village ( it can be assumed that the initiative to change their name from the village came himself ).

The second explanation is that the name Davor from the Davorien derived. These are patriotic poems, which have emerged in the 30s of the 19th century in the time of Ljudevit Gaj, the Illyrian movement and the awakening of the national consciousness of the South Slavic peoples. In addition to the Croats and the Serbs and Slovenes know such poems.
