Davor, Croatia

Previously [ daʋɔr ] is a municipality in Croatia. Previously located in Slavonia ( County of Slavonski Brod - Posavina ).

Geography

Before that lies on the river Sava - the border to Bosnia - and directly at the point where the river Vrbas flows (on the Bosnian side in Srbac ) into the Sava.

History

Prior to April 1, 1896 called - On 20 December 1895 a government decision Svinjar - as Prior was before. The name Svinjar derived from the Croatian word ' svinja ' (= pig) and sounds more pejorative. This may have been motivation for a name change. For the origin of the name Before that, there are two explanations:

The first explanation comes from the Slavic mythology where a god is called Prior. The probability of the origin of the name Davor from this mythology is considered low because the Slavic mythology has not reached the Croats profound.
