DB Class 65

The steam locomotives of Class 65 were passenger tank locomotives of the German Federal Railroad ( DB). The locomotives were developed as part of the construction program and the DB were designed for suburban and urban railway transport in urban areas. There they were 78 and 93.5 replace the series. Accordingly, they were the Bahnbetriebswerke Darmstadt ( 7), Dusseldorf ( 3), Remscheid -Lennep (2) and Letmathe ( 1) assigned. Between Dusseldorf and Essen, drove the BW Food (5 ) even in the S -Bahn forward operation. Between Limburg / Lahn and Wiesbaden and around Darmstadt also freight trains were transported with the locomotives of this series.

The company Krauss- Maffei delivered 13 machines in 1951 initially and again 5 From 1955 until 1956. The first machine, the company number 65 007, was decommissioned in 1966 again.

All vehicles received a welded high efficiency boiler. The operation numbers 65001-65013 were equipped with a Oberflächenvorwärmer. The numbers 65014-65018 received a mixer preheater. For the push-pull operation, the operating numbers 65 012 were - 65 018 equipped. The last five of the type series sailed the route Dusseldorf - Essen - Kettwig.

So there was this two-cylinder steam engine for the DB in three different versions.

The locomotives of the series 65 proved to be extremely reliable machines, but they were not universally applicable because they had only small inventories and could therefore only be used in Nahgüterverkehr. Finally, the locomotives were stationed in Aschaffenburg and Limburg.

The 65 018 was given a special light engine, which was later used in all machines. She was deployed as a last of their series in 1972 at Bw Aschaffenburg. 65 018 is operable to receive in the Netherlands in the Stoom Stichting Nederland after the German Steam Locomotive Museum (DDM ) was issued in 1981.
