DBAG Class 422

The DB Class 422/432 is an evolved from the four-part series 423 electric multiple unit for use in rail passenger transport.

With class 422 while the two end cars driven are called, while also driven means cars are classified as Class 432.

Procurement

The class 422 was in 2005 by the Deutsche Bahn AG commissioned ( contract value of nearly 400 million euros ) and is manufactured from a formed by Bombardier and Alstom Consortium in lightweight aluminum. The delivery of 84 units was carried out from November 2008. On 22 October 2010 a photo of the delivery of the last vehicle has been published.

Following this should come from a follow-on contract for at least another 32 trainsets will be delivered by the end of 2012 in order to be able to call in the S -Bahn operating in North Rhine -Westphalia exclusively to vehicles of a new design can. In December 2009, the transport association Rhein- Ruhr announced that instead of the second production run of this series at least 32 additional trainsets are delivered from the series 430.

According to recent information, but are the first vehicles of the series but go 430 from 2012 to Stuttgart. Due to the current litigation between the VRR, the Deutsche Bahn and Abellio NRW GmbH further features of the S - Bahn Rhein -Ruhr is challenged with new vehicles. However, it was announced in April 2011 that the appointment of additional railcars for the S- Bahn Rhein -Ruhr was canceled. The reason the upcoming tender for the associated S -Bahn lines S5 and S8 is called by the VRR. The there vacant units of class 422 are then to replace instead of the 430s the locomotive-hauled trains on the lines S6 and S68 in December 2014.

Use

Since February 2008, the first trains were being tested. The new trainsets have hitherto been used exclusively in the S-Bahn Rhein-Ruhr network (in the range of the transport association Rhein- Ruhr) by DB Regio NRW. The commissioning was initially planned for the early summer of 2008, announced on several occasions, but always postponed. The registration of the vehicles by the Federal Railway Authority as competent authority then took place in November 2008, so on 17 November 2008, the first four -unit trains planned on the former S7 ( Solingen - Dusseldorf airport terminal) in two rounds were used.

In the year 2009 timetable four lines were converted to the class 422 successively. At times, the series was 422 on the Verstärkerumläufen S6 ( Ratingen - Langenfeld ) in use. With conversion of S9 (Wuppertal - Haltern am See) end of February 2009, the scheduled use of the S- orbits of the 420 series in NRW ended a second time.

Conversions and deployment of the class 422:

The S68 ( Wuppertal- Vohwinkel - Langenfeld ) replaced in the course book in 2010 the amplifier transport S6 ( Ratingen - Langenfeld ).

The S7 ( Solingen - Dusseldorf airport terminal) is set on December 13, 2009, and by extension for the S1 (Dortmund - Solingen ) - replaced and S11 ( Dusseldorf Airport Terminal Bergisch Gladbach).

According to the DB Regio in Münster are basically used 422 in double traction on the S6 from December 2014, which are free on the line S5/S8. There, they are replaced by the series 1440th

In early April 2011, known software problems with your installed system, the point -shaped train control (EBI Cab 500). There had been two Signalüberfahrungen, for which a safety reaction EBI Cab facility was under remained. Subsequently, the Federal Railway Authority (EBA ) had 422 limits the maximum speed of all vehicles in the series to 100 km / hr. In addition, the trains were filled with an additional train companion. In order to maintain the traffic were again increasingly trains with locomotives of the series 143 and four x - cart on the road, especially on the line S1.

The software error was corrected mid-June 2011 and updates have been deployed. For vehicles with updated software the duty of the train crew is eliminated and the maximum speed may not be fully extended again. As of June 18, 2011 the first vehicles were set with updated software back into their old rounds.

Technology

Technically, the 422 series is very similar to the previous series. Major changes include the new vehicle head with crumple zone, a new vehicle control Bombardier MITRAC, a new brake control and compressed air supply system ( Knorr -Bremse ), a new train control system called EBI Cab 500 PZB (Bombardier ) and a new floor structure.

In addition, the unchecked in the previous series 423 middle bogie is equipped with wheel brake discs and an additional magnetic brake.

At the doors of the railcars have applied to the entire height of the door light grid instead of the simple light barriers, as they were originally used in the previous series. In addition, the 422 series has a video - based interior surveillance.
