DeChaunac

DeChaunac is a red grape variety. It is a new breed of French breeder Albert Seibel ( 1844-1936 ). It was dedicated to the French-Canadian viticulture pioneer Adhemar de Chaunac. The high yielding and particularly suitable for cooler areas hybrid vine has spread to a greater extent on the U.S. east coast (New York State, Finger Lake ) and Canada ( Ontario and Nova Scotia province). In Switzerland, there are also small vineyards that are planted with DeChaunac (0.26 acres, as of 2007, source: Office fédéral de l'agriculture OFAG ). In Canada, the grape variety is not covered by the approved varieties for quality viticulture. There the rich variety about 160 frost-free days to deliver fully mature grapes.

Fruity and tannic red and rosé wines are produced from DeChaunac. It is also used as a blending partner with Cabernet Sauvignon. It has a good resistance against downy mildew and powdery mildew.
