Deinanthe

Deinanthe caerulea

The apparent hydrangeas ( Deinanthe ) are a genus of the family of hydrangea plants ( Hydrangeaceae ). The genus includes two species that are native to Japan or China.

Description

The species of the genus are perennial, herbaceous plants that grow from a rhizome and are up to 50 centimeters high. The stalked, opposite leaves run at the very end too pointed or forked, the edge is rough sawn.

The inflorescences are zymöse panicles with nodding flowers. The outer flowers are sterile and smaller than the inner ones. The five to six sepals are above each other like roof tiles. The five to eight also arranged like roof tiles in the inner fleshy flower petals are ovate, white, red-violet to blue and bent back in the heyday.

The stamens of the more than 200 stamens are filiform, fused the Stylodien. The medium-sized ovary is four-to sechsfächrig, the seeds lie in transverse and hang down. The fruit is a capsule, which opens at the far end, to release the numerous, 0.5 to 1.5 mm long, winged seeds. During the opening of the capsule, the overgrown Stylodien tear it apart again.

The chromosome number is 2n = 34

Occurrence

The Blue Scheinhortensie is native to China, the Two-Column Scheinhortensie in Japan. Both species are found in wet mountain forests on wet rocks.

Botanical history and systematics

The genus was first described in 1867 by Carl Maximowicz. Within the family, it is placed in the subfamily Hydrangeoideae and there in the tribe Hydrangeae. There are two types:

  • Two-column Scheinhortensie ( Deinanthe bifida Maxim. )
  • Blue Scheinhortensie ( Deinanthe caerulea Stapf )
