Demidov Prize

The Demidov Prize (Russian Демидовская премия ) is a 1832 to 1865 and from 1993 conferred by the Russian Academy of Sciences annually to its members price for outstanding scientific achievements. He is considered one of the most prestigious science awards in Russia. It is named after the founder Pavel Nikolayevich Demidov. The prize was first awarded in 1865 to newly established, only ( in accordance with the provisions of Demidov Testament) and 1993 on the initiative of Gennadi Mesjaz ( Vice- President of the Russian Academy of Sciences) and the Governor of the Sverdlovsk Oblast, Eduard Rossel.

The price was originally endowed with 5,000 rubles ( for full price ) and is endowed with $ 10,000 since 1993. It is awarded in Yekaterinburg (capital of Sverdlovsk Oblast ) and the winners give a lecture at the local State University of the Urals.
