Denis O'Hare
Denis O'Hare ( born January 16, 1962 in Kansas City, Missouri ) is an American actor, known for his winning the Tony Award for performance in the Broadway play Take Me Out, and his role as Russell Edgington in the television series True Blood. Currently, he plays a major role in the horror series American Horror Story - The dark side in you.
Life and career
Childhood and youth
Denis O'Hare was born on January 16, 1962 in Kansas City, Missouri and grew up in Southfield, a suburb of Detroit, Michigan. When he was 15 years old his family moved to the Wing Lake in Oakland. In his youth, O'Hare was a member of the school choir and at the age of twelve he had his first role in a production of the musical Show Boat. At 18, he moved to Chicago to study at Northwestern University theater.
Time at the theater
O'Hare remained after graduating in Chicago, where he worked as a stage actor. In 1992 he then moved to New York and was there after a few regional productions directed by Richard Eyre made his debut on Broadway in the play Racing Demon. Soon after, he played in a revival of the play Cabaret by Rob Marshall and Sam Mendes, who was awarded the Tony Award. He then played the lead role in a production of George Bernard Shaw's Major Barbara. His greatest success on Broadway celebrated Denis O'Hare in 2003 as Mason Marzac in Richard Greenberg's Take Me Out. For this role, he was honored with the Tony Award, Drama Desk Award, Outer Critics Circle Award, Obie Award, Lucille Lortel Award and Broadway.com Audience Award for Best Actor. In 2005 he won the Drama Desk Award for Best Supporting Actor in Sweet Charity.
Film and Television
In 1993 took over O'Hare a small supporting role in the television series The Adventures of Young Indiana Jones. In the following years he played small supporting roles over and over again, but remained mainly in the theater running. From 2005 he became increasingly supporting roles. A wider audience, he was known for his illustrations in The Charlie Wilson's War and Milk. In 2010 he took over the role of the vampire king Russell Edgington on the HBO television series True Blood. In 2011 he took over in the first season of the horror television series American Horror Story - The dark side in you one of the lead roles.
Personal
Denis O'Hare's grandfather emigrated from Ireland in 1920 in the United States. It has the U.S. and Irish citizenship.
He has been known in high school to his homosexuality and married in 2011 his partner Hugo Redwood a month after same-sex marriages were allowed in New York.
