Derek Fazackerley

Derek William Fazackerley ( born November 5, 1951 in Preston ) is an English former football player. The center-back is still simplistic internal record holder of Blackburn Rovers in relation to the most compulsory and league bets.

Sports career

Fazackerley grew up not far from his birthplace on the southern corner of Penworth and learned to play football at both the Kings Fold Primary School and later at the small local club Penwortham Hill Rovers. In July 1969 he joined Blackburn Rovers after he had there already completed sample workouts and in addition, attempts at the Bury FC, Stoke City and FC Blackpool.

Less than two years later wrote " Faz " as he was usually called, in February 1971 the first professional contract with the " Rovers ". Shortly thereafter, he made his debut on 23 February 1971 at the goalless draw against Hull City, but had to go to the end of the 1970/71 season to accept relegation to the third tier. From the resulting rebuilding under new coach Ken Furphy Fazackerley emerged as the winner and, together with the newly obligated veteran John McNamee he formed henceforth the middle. Although not grown very big, with just 1.80 meters, he showed up in his head duels as effectively and beyond as robust two fighters. Backed by a good " timing " feeling and a high basic speed he had both a strong positional play and tactical understanding about above average. After McNamee were in the 1970s, Graham Hawkins and John Waddington other partners for Fazackerley in central defense, but above all he harmonized perfectly with Glenn Keeley from 1976. After the active career

In August 1992 Fazackerley hired at Newcastle United, where he assisted in common with Les Reed head coach Kevin Keegan. Three years later he returned to Blackburn and worked from September 1995 initially under Ray Harford and later under Roy Hodgson. When Brian Kidd took over the helm in Blackburn in December 1998, Fazackerley had to give way. However, he was already in April 1999 at Bolton Wanderers again briefly a new Kotrainerstelle and also took back together with Keegan, who had now taken over the English national team.

Between January and October of 2001, it FC Barnsley before Keegan steered him to Manchester City in November 2001.
