Derek Whitmore
Derek Robert Whitmore ( born December 17, 1984 in Rochester, New York ) is an American professional ice hockey player who is under contract for the Hershey Bears in the American Hockey League since the summer of 2013.
Career
After various stations in Junior leagues to Whitmore joined the University team of Bowling Green State University where he played four seasons in the Central Collegiate Hockey Association. In March 2008, the Americans signed his first professional contract with the Buffalo Sabres. There, the striker came mainly in the American Hockey League action, with the Portland Pirates and in his hometown at the Rochester Americans. On December 20, 2011 Whitmore made his debut in the National Hockey League in a game against the Buffalo Sabres, the Ottawa Senators. Overall, the Americans completed two NHL games. At the beginning of the 2012/13 season concluded the striker a try-out contract with the St. John's IceCaps, the farm team of the Winnipeg Jets, from. He, however, came in six weeks only to seven inserts. Consequently, his contract was dissolved. For the rest of the season Whitmore signed a contract with the Augsburger Panther of the Deutsche Eishockey Liga. Five days after his last game for the IceCaps debuted the striker for the Panthers and prepared in an away game against the Straubing Tigers in front of two doors. Even in the remaining games of the season convinced Whitmore, so that his contract was extended until 2014. However, this contract has a release clause for a commitment in North America. This took advantage of the striker in July 2013 and thus ended the contract with the Augsburg Panthers.
