Desingy

Desingy is a commune in the French department of Haute- Savoie department in the Rhône-Alpes region.

Geography

Desingy is located on 512 m above sea level. M., near Seyssel, some 21 km west-northwest of the city of Annecy ( straight line ). The farming village extends a scenic location on a gently sloping hillside overlooking the valley to the north of the Usses, east of the valley of the Rhone Valley, in Genevois.

The area of ​​18.93 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the western Genevois. The northwestern and northern boundary runs along the Usses, a left tributary of the Rhône. The valley is mostly wooded and has a relatively narrow valley floor on. History

The territory of Desingy was already inhabited during the Roman period, as could be shown by means of wall foundations. In the 13th century Desingy is first mentioned. The name came originally from the Gallo-Roman personal name Decimus.

Attractions

The village church of Desingy, originally dates from the 11th century, was restored late 20th century. Below the hamlet Pelly is the Château de Pelly, which was built in the 13th century and restored in 1964. It has a keep and the four towers. Other former places of residence are located in Etrables, Planaz and La Tour.

Population

With 797 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Desingy one of the small towns in the Haute-Savoie region. During the 19th and 20th centuries, the population steadily increased due to high levels of emigration from (1861 were still in Desingy counted 1522 inhabitants).
