Detroit International Jazz Festival

The Detroit International Jazz Festival or Detroit Jazz Festival is an annual existing since 1980 Jazz Festival in Detroit. It was founded by Robert McCabe and Detroit Renaissance and place in the city park Hart Plaza on Labor Day weekend. Carrier is the Detroit International Jazz Festival Foundation ( founded in 2006 ).

History of the Festival

(Hence Montreux- Detroit Festival called ) From 1980 to 1991 she had an exchange program with the Montreux Jazz Festival. 1991 to 2005 it was in the Music Hall Center for the Performing Arts in Detroit. In 2005 it received support from the philanthropist and chairman of Mack Avenue Records Gretchen Valade and the Knight Foundation, after the main sponsor Ford Motor Company had jumped. It was called the Detroit International Jazz Festival, stretching from north to Campus Martius Park.

The Festival Foundation also supports general jazz in Detroit, organizes concerts and other youth programs.

This included performances by Dave Brubeck, Mulgrew Miller, The Manhattan Transfer, Dave Holland, Regina Carter.

2012 occurred Wynton Marsalis, Chick Corea, Sonny Rollins, Wayne Shorter, Gary Burton, Pat Metheny and Joe Lovano.
