Dingbats (Unicode block)
The Unicode block Dingbats (U 2700 to U 27 BF) mainly contains a collection of symbolic and decorative glyphs based on designs by Hermann Zapf font ITC Zapf Dingbats, which are now an industry standard. The English Onomatopoetikon dingbat ornament stands for printer's, the decoration of the printing system. Since Unicode version 5.2 has not been previously documented code values were used for jewelry characters from other sources.
The main block contains arrows ( arrows dingbat 2794 - 27BE ), ornamental punctuation ( Punctuation ornaments 275B -2767 ), and parentheses ( brackets ornamental 2768-2775 ), circled digits ( Dingbat circled digits from 2776 to 2793 ), crosses ( Crosses 2719-2720 ), stars, starlets and the like ( stars, asterisks and snowflakes 2721 - 274B ) as well as mixed signs and symbols of all possible topics (Miscellaneous 2701-2718, 274C - 275A ).
