Dioundiou

Region

Dioundiou (also: Dioudou, German outdated: Djundju ) is a rural municipality and the capital of the eponymous department Dioundiou in Niger.

Geography

Dioundiou lies in the large landscape Sudan and to the east by the neighboring state of Nigeria. The neighboring communities in Niger are Karguibangou, caracara, Tessa and Zabori in the north, the south and Yelou Farey in the West. The municipality is divided into 60 administrative villages, 46 traditional villages, hamlets and four 14 stock. The main town of the country church is the administrative village Dioundiou.

History

The French mission Voulet - Chanoine established in the year 1899 600 warriors from Dioundiou contrary. The fortified town was conquered by the French in the assault, in which Paul Voulet, the leader of the mission, was injured. The French taught in the early 20th century, a canton in Dioundiou. The rural community Dioundiou was founded in 2002 at a nationwide administrative reform from the Canton Dioundiou forth. 2009 tried flooding damage, of which 595 residents were directly affected. When the floods in West and Central Africa 2010 399 persons were classified as disaster victims in Dioundiou. Since 2011, the rural community is no longer part of the Department Gaya, but the newly created Department Dioundiou.

Population

At the 2001 census Dioundiou had 37 338 inhabitants. For the year 2010 50.083 inhabitants were calculated.

Policy

In the local elections in July 2004 Sidi Mamane ( PNDS - Tarayya ) was elected mayor. On 15 April 2010 the Council of Ministers Issoufou Soumana appointed administrator ( Administrateur Délégué ) of the communities Dioundiou, Caracara and Zabori and Mahamadou Bizo head of the administrative post ( chef de poste administratif ) of Dioundiou.

Economy and infrastructure

To the east of the municipality of irrigation crop production is operated, the West is part of a zone, prevailing in the rainfed agriculture. In Dioundiou there are several weekly markets. Market day is Monday in the capital Dioundiou and Friday in the administrative village Koutoumbou. Dioundiou is located on the National Road 2, which connects the village with the neighboring communities Farey and Zabori.
