Divišov

Divišov ( German Diwischau ) is a Městys in the Central Bohemian Region, Czech Republic.

Geography

It lies about 36 km south-east of Prague. Four kilometers east of the patch runs the Dálnice 1 from Prague to Brno, at the same time the European Route 50 and European Route 65 is here, with the motorway exit located in Šternov 41

History

The first mention of Divišov dates from the year 1130. The history of the community in the Blanik foreshore is with the family of the lords of Divis, who soon adopted the name of Sternberg, linked from the beginning. In the local parish had in the 14th century building director of Prague's St. Vitus Cathedral of Václav Radeč and Prague Archbishop Nicholas Puchník of Černice. The Baroque Church of Sts. Bartholomew became a Marian shrine, there is in it the grave of the daughter of King George of Podiebrad, Eliska. With the VINAR family musical tradition of Divišov is linked. After 1948 the brand Eso here motorcycles and Jawa were produced. On 10 October 2006 Divišov was raised to Městys.

The Městys Divišov consists of the districts Dalovy ( DALOW ) Divišov ( Diwischau ) Křešice ( Kreschitz ) Lbosín ( Lebosin ) Měchnov ( Miechnow ) Radonice ( Radonitz ) Šternov ( Sternhof ) and Zdebuzeves ( Stebusowes ).

Attractions

Museum of Life of the Jewish Community: The Jews made their settling in Divišov since the end of the 17th century. At their community remember some houses, the cemetery and the neoclassical synagogue with an exhibition that will bring the Jewish population of the region closer.
