DJ SS

DJ SS ( born August 27, 1970 in Leicester, England, civil Leroy Small) is a drum -and- bass DJ and producer. His stage name stands for " scratch stone ".

Life

According to the Rough Guide, he coined the hardcore and Hardstep genre decisively. Apart Ray Keith, Dillinja Shy FX and he is one of the prototypical representatives of Hardstep. From the beginning of the hardcore scene of the early nineties he was one of the few who survived several years and have been recognized over time within the Jungle scene as an artist.

Small and his partner Eidris organized in 1991 under the name "Total Kaos " a series of Friday night parties in Leicester. They also organized a biggest at that time indoor events of the emerging British hardcore scene: at Donington Park, with 6,000 guests. So Small summed up at the beginning of the British hardcore, jungle and drum -and- bass - motion foot in the scene and quickly gained notoriety.

His first release, the EP The Psycho on Formation Records coined the defining elements of hardcore blueprint: crunching break beats and synth riffs reminiscent of alarm sirens. While the Jungle Scene oriented more towards melody in the 1980/1990er-Zeit, DJ SS was, together with asend, Deep Blue, Aphrodite and DJ Hype to the younger generation of those who placed the emphasis on percussion and beats.
