The Djurgården (Swedish: Djurgårdslinjen ) is a tramway line in the Swedish capital of Stockholm, which was decommissioned in 1967 and is operated since 1991 on the stretch of Norrmalmstorg to Waldemarsudde.

By 2010, the Djurgården had the number 7 was involved until then also not fully in the Nahverkehrsverbund Storstockholms Lokaltrafik (SL). Only certain tickets were there.

2010 Spårväg City was opened, which is a tram line from the Kungsholmen West will be up to the bridge to Lidingö in the final state of development. So far, however, only the two stations and Sergels Torg Kungsträdgården are opened. Since then, all of SL tickets are also valid in the Djurgården, which was renamed 7N. Under the old name Line 7 Sergels Torg to run from the modern low-floor vehicles by Waldemarsudde Bombardier Flexity Classic.

History

The line was shut down along with all other Stockholm tram lines (except the Nockebybahn ) 1967 in the conversion of Sweden to right-hand traffic. Since that time there have been considerations to reactivate it. 1985 was decided by the city to take it as a museum railway into operation again, but without the consent of the Storstockholms Lokaltrafik (SL). On 2 June 1991 she participated as line 7 on its operation and has since been honorary operated by the Swedish Tramway Society. The infrastructure is not part of the SL, the rolling stock.

Expansion plans

Back in 2000 there was the first studies for an expansion of Djurgården. In mid-2007, the city decided to expand the Djurgården. The route should be extended from the current endpoint Norrmalmstorg to Hauptbahnhof Central stations. The course is led by Norrmalmstorg on the existing bus lane through the Hamngatan. From there, the route should continue on individual traffic traces to Sergels torg in the Klarabergsgatan and end on the Klaraberg viaduct in front of the main train station. For space reasons, no turning loop there could have been built, so the only route with bidirectional vehicles could be driven.

The existing depot on Djurgården is too small for the new vehicles, and can not be increased due to lack of space for expansion. Therefore it is on the industrial estate Frihamnen / Värtan a new depot arise. When connecting a two-lane track will be built over the Oxenstiernsgatan and Lindarängsvägen. This can later when the planned conversion of the old docks is converted into a residential and business district to be upgraded as a regular route. The articulated cars already in use in Stockholm on the Nockebybanan and Tvärbanan type A32 (Bombardier Flexity Swift) are not able to navigate the tight curves on the Djurgården, so a new vehicle type must be procured. Therefore, testing Stockholms Lokaltrafik in 2006 and 2007 orbits of the types Bombardier Flexity Outlook and Alstom Citadis.

In a first phase, the existing route from Norrmalmstorg is extended to Sergels Torg. The opening to traffic took place in August 2010, since then associate the new low-floor cars than line 7, the historic features as line 7N.
