Geographical location

The city is located about 60 kilometers northwest of Łódź and 130 kilometers south-east of Poznan. Dobra is located about 123 meters above sea level.

History

The first written mention of the village dates from the year 1381st In 1392, the town was first described as a city. Dobra was an applied according to Magdeburg law Private City. In 1521 the first Jews settled in the city. A fire destroyed about 1538 large parts of the city. 1626 a cholera epidemic broke out which killed many inhabitants. Another cholera epidemic followed 1708. During the Second Partition of Poland, the city came in 1793 under Prussian sovereignty. In 1807 the city became part of the Duchy of Warsaw. 1810 opened the first primary school in Dobra. Five years later, the city became part of Congress Poland newly formed. After the suppression of the January Uprising by Russian troops the place lost its city charter in 1867. On May 15, 1905, the first fire department Dobras started its work. The establishment of the parish church was completed in 1912. After the First World War, the city was part of the build again and administrative Poland voivodeship Łódź has been assigned.
