During the 1997/98 season he moved together with Doug Bodger to the New Jersey Devils, the charges in exchange for Ken Sutton and John MacLean to San Jose. There were no further Wood NHL games and therefore left North America in summer 2001.

The Canadians signed a contract Ayr Scottish Eagles in the British Ice Hockey Super League, before he went after one year within the league to the Nottingham Panthers. For the season 2003/ 04 he returned to North America. After a few missions for various teams in various minor leagues, he finally ended his career in the summer of 2004.
