Don Ameche

Don Ameche, Dominic Felix Amici actually ( born May 31, 1908 in Kenosha, Wisconsin, † December 6, 1993 in Scottsdale, Arizona ) was an American actor.

Ameche was in the 1940s in the United States, a well-known and popular film actor. At the same time he worked as a radio announcer. In the early 1950s eased the deals for movies, Ameche is focused on the then-new medium of television and played next to the theater. In 1955, he worked first time in a Broadway production, in the world premiere of the musical Silk Stockings ( Stockings ) by Cole Porter in which he took over the male lead on the side of Hildegard Knef. In the play it was an adaptation of Ninotchka movie material.

In the 1980s he managed a comeback and he played among others in Trading Places as Mortimer Duke and in the movie Cocoon, for which he received a 1985 Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor. Other appearances in comedy films followed.

Ameche was married since 1932 to Honore Prendergast († 1986), with whom he had six children. His brother Jim Ameche (1915-1986) was also an actor and radio host. His cousin Alan Ameche was American football player for the Baltimore Colts in the NFL. He was co-owner of the Los Angeles Dons, an American football team that played in the All-America Football Conference ( AAFC ).

Don Ameche died on 6 December 1993 in Scottsdale, Arizona, from prostate cancer.
