Don Bagley

Donald Neff "Don" Bagley ( born July 18, 1927 in Salt Lake City, Utah; † July 26, 2012 in Northridge, California ) was an American jazz bassist and film composer.

Life and work

Don Bagley studied in Los Angeles and played three years in the U.S. Navy in 1945 with Shorty Sherock and Wingy Manone, 1948 Dick Pierce. From 1950 to 1954 he was on the recommendation of Jimmy Rowles member of the orchestra of Stan Kenton, in his album New Concepts of Artistry in Rhythm he participated. He had at times even his own trio and in 1957 was hired by Les Brown for his band. In the 1960s he worked primarily as a studio musician with the NBC. Throughout his career, Bagley recorded with Shorty Rogers, Maynard Ferguson, Julie London, Wardell Gray / Dexter Gordon All Stars, Zoot Sims, Lee Konitz, Sarah Vaughan and Lars Gullin All American Stars. In 1958 he recorded two albums under his own name. Between 1961 and 1983 he composed a number of film scores; he also wrote arrangements and conducted from the 1970s.
