Don Blackman

Donald Blackman ( born September 1, 1953 in Queens, New York City, † April 11, 2013 ) was an American funk and jazz pianist.

Career

Blackman appeared in 1968 on in Charles McPherson tape with Sam Jones and Louis Hayes. In the early 1970s he toured as keyboardist with the group Parliament / Funkadelic and later became a member of Lenny White's band radio Twennynine. In addition, he contributed to Weldon Irvine Sinbad album. In 1982, he released his first solo album.

Later he worked with Kurtis Blow and Bernard Wright. As a studio musician he took, inter alia, with Nagee, David Sanborn, Wayman Tisdale, Patrice Rushen, Roy Ayers, Sting ( Brand New Day ), the World Saxophone Quartet ( Takin ' It 2 the Next Level ), Janet Jackson (That's the Way Love Goes ) and Wayman Tisdale on. His compositions have been covered by artists such as Tupac Shakur, Memphis Bleek and Master P.. Blackman composed jingles for radio and television programs, numerous advertising music ( among others for Coca Cola, Burger King, and Martini Bulldog Dozer ), Music for Children ( inter alia for the daily show Gullah Gullah Iceland ). His title Haboglabotribin ( composed for B. Wright ) was sampled by Snoop Doggy Dogg.

Blackman died on April 11, 2013 after a serious cancer.
