Don Taylor (American actor and director)

Don Taylor ( born December 13, 1920 in Freeport, Pennsylvania, United States, † December 29, 1998 in Los Angeles, California, United States ) was an American film and television director, actor, producer and screenwriter.

Life

Don Taylor studied speech and drama at the Pennsylvania State University. In 1943 he began his career in film as an actor. He stood at MGM under contract. From 1957 he worked as a director. He turned mainly episodes of various television series.

With the film Escape from the Planet of the Apes 1971 he turned the second sequel to Planet of the Apes.

In 1978 he directed the first sequel to the horror classic The Omen. He got the job because the originally envisaged director Mike Hodges had left due to creative differences the production.

For his work on The Island of Dr. Moreau Taylor in 1978 was nominated for a Saturn Award for Best Director. In 1964 he was nominated for his work as a director for the TV series The Farmer 's Daughter for an Emmy.

He was married twice. With the actress Phyllis Avery he was married from 1945 to 1955, from this marriage two children. In 1964 he married the actress also acting as Hazel Court, with her he had a son and a daughter.

Don Taylor is buried at the Westwood Village Memorial Park Cemetery.
