Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze ( abbreviated DKCTF ) is the fifth part of the Donkey Kong Country series. He was introduced at E3 2013 by Nintendo and was released on 21 February 2014 for the Wii U.

Gameplay

The camera setting of Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze differs from its predecessors. While it was in the original Donkey Kong Country parts for the SNES pure side-scroller, there ie only one part of the level was reversely displayed horizontally from left to right or, the camera moves in Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze partially also in the background or rotates in some levels around. Thus, in DKCTF the typical 2D elements with 3D elements are connected. In this way the developers want to create both new sensory and gameplay impressions. The game also features a cooperative 2-player mode in which each player controls one of the characters.

Can be controlled Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze with the Wii U controller ( GamePad ), the Wii Remote, Nunchuk and Wii U Pro Controller.

In Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze Donkey Kong, Diddy Kong, Dixie Kong and Cranky Kong are playable. Each of these characters has this specific characteristics.

Development

Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze is developed by native Texas game developer Retro Studios and published by Nintendo. Retro Studios was also responsible for the development of the Wii predecessor, Donkey Kong Country Returns. The original Donkey Kong Country series for the SNES was supplied by Rare. Producer of the game is Kensuke Tanabe. This was also active in the Wii predecessor and the 3DS offshoot Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D as a producer. As Director Risa Tabata was used. Both are employees of the Nintendo Studios Nintendo Software Planning & Development (SPD ) 3, which is involved in the development of DKCTF. According to reports, the composer of the soundtracks of the original Donkey Kong Country series, David Wise, the soundtrack to Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze contribute.

First speculation that Retro Studios working on a Wii U game, came on in April 2011. At the end of 2011 published in Mario Kart 7, the studio was involved in a support position. In the near future, the studio expanded greatly. In June 2012, Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils -Aime was asked about the Retro Studios project, which the latter replied that he could not yet reveal. After the Nintendo producer Hiro Yamada end of April 2013 implied an early revelation, the game was finally announced by Nintendo during E ³ on 11 June 2013. Shortly after the announcement Retro Studios president Michael Kelbaugh spoke in an interview after the completion of Donkey Kong Country Returns wanted to develop another series offshoot of his studio, also in view of the possibilities of the Wii U hardware. He and his studio would have loved to develop in future another Metroid part, the whole team was busy but with DKCTF.

On October 1, 2013, a few weeks before the scheduled release of the game, Nintendo announced a shift. Since the development of more stressful time, Tropical Freeze will be placed on the market until early 2014.

On December 8, 2013, the President of Nintendo U.S. announced that Cranky Kong will be a playable character. His ability is to use a Pogostabes. It was also announced that the game will be released in the U.S. on 21 February 2014.

In Japan, Tropical Freeze sold in the first week after its launch, according to Media Create more than 35,000 times, so it took the second place of the Japanese video game weekly charts.
