Nightmare Lover ( Dream Lover ) is an American thriller by Nicholas Kazan from the year 1994.

Action

Ray Reardon is owner of an architectural practice. He recently experienced a divorce and is down; his friends merry him.

Reardon learns Lena Mathers know in which he falls in love. He and Mathers marry later, they have a child. Some events suggest that Lena could have an affair. Ray puts his wife to talk and learns that she really had an affair. Your child could come from her lover. Reardon beats his wife, is arrested, declared insane and sent for several months in a psychiatric hospital.

Lena visited Ray in the hospital in order to enjoy his helpless situation and to mock him. She admits she had married Ray to get his money. The child she wants up for adoption and then lead a carefree life of his money. But she has no idea that Ray has now about how he can turn the tables: With the help of a fellow patient he distracts the nurse to be alone with Lena. He tells her it was a mistake to declare him insane because he could thus they kill with impunity. Then he kills Lena.

Reviews

James Berardinelli wrote on ReelViews, the film differs from other thrillers. Known situations ( "stock situations" ) would lead to unusual actions of the characters. The second half of the film was " much stronger " than the first. The outstanding performances of James Spader was " uneven ", but " overall convincing" ( "generally convincing" ). Mädchen Amick have a pleasant appearance, but her performance was weaker.
