DRG Class 99.21

The locomotive DR 99 211 was built for the Wangerooger island railway on the North Sea island of Wangerooge.

History

For use with four-axle passenger cars due to the increasing volume of traffic baths stronger locomotive was needed. In July 1929 the locomotive was delivered 99 211 by Henschel. After the purchase of diesel locomotives in 1958 she remained as a reserve vehicle until retirement on 18 August 1960.

The locomotive is placed as a monument to the old lighthouse at the station of Wangerooge since July 21, 1968.

Technical Features

The inner frame of the locomotives was used as a water tank. They were designed as wet steam locomotives. The boiler was zweischüssig and had 90 heating pipes. The drive was a Heusinger control on the third axis. The central axis was performed to better Kurvenläufigkeit without wheel flanges.

The vehicles were 0.6 tons of coal in side tanks adjacent to the boiler and 1.8 cubic meters of water, the purposes and in connection to the coal boxes to record. An electric lighting was the first locomotive in 1953.
