Držkov

Držkov ( German Drschke ) is a municipality in Okres Jablonec nad Nisou and Liberec region belongs to. It is part of micro-region Železnobrodsko.

Geography

It is located on the railway line Zelezny Brod - Tanvald, about ten kilometers north of Zelezny Brod. Držkov situated on a plateau, which is surrounded by hills. Their highest, Cerna Studnice ( Schwarzenbrunn ) is 869 m high. At the end of the village, the terrain drops steeply to the valley of Kamenice ( Kamnitz ), a right tributary of the Jizera ( Iser).

History

Where the name of the village comes, which was formerly written as Dryzkow, Drzkow, Držkow, Zdržkow, Trschkow or Drschkow, can not be proved. He probably came from the family name Držislav. Occupied the place was already in the 10th century, especially from pagan Slavs of the tribe of the choir wading. From archaeological investigations of graves can be inferred that have lived here at this time about 60 people. The first written mention dates from 1352 (construction of the wooden church of the Order Cyriak ). The place was built above the castle Návarov for times of the Lords of Železnice. It should be an important trading center of the region according to ideas of men. The first settlers were farmers and probably also miners, who promoted iron ore here. Later, cotton weaving, brick plant, limestone and granite block fractures were operated.

After a checkered history during the 15th century Držkov came to power Navarov ( Nawarow ), later to Wallenstein, Wartenberg, rabbits castle and Smiřický. After the Battle of White Mountain in 1620 Držkov came to power Albrecht von Wallenstein and then went to the widow of General Lamotte.

1669 was the owner of the reign of Marie Angela Nunkl the Church of St. Bartholomew ( Czech sv. Bartoloměje ) build. From stones of the demolished castle Navarov it tightly built next to a castle. The descendants of Lamotte, members of the Ehrenberg family, kept the rule Navarov until the 19th century. Finally, Dr. jur bought. Vaníček the castle and the associated property. Today the castle is owned by his descendants. End of the 19th century the town had 115 houses and about 1,000 inhabitants.

After the First World War, the inhabitants returned to the glass industry. In the resort, nine grinding shops. During the occupation, Antonín Lejsek introduced the manufacture de cut glass and art glass. In the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia Držkov was a border community. The neighboring Plavy ( Plaw ) was already part of the Greater German Reich. This Držkov became a refuge for exiled Czechs from the German countryside. Shortly after the Second World War returned these refugees back home. At the same time moved away some longtime residents of Držkov.

Držkov was known for his bands, the so-called harmonies. There were associations of musicians who played mainly in Poland, Lithuania and Ukraine. They were called " Bohemici " and were engaged by the nobility and circuses especially. The chapels were different strongly held, especially by men. Mainly, violins, clarinets, bass and trumpets were used; The repertoire consisted of mazurkas, polkas and waltzes. The place was next to Zásada the largest and most important place in the former county Zelezny Brod ( Eisenbrod ).
