History

Eichwald was founded at a ford in the oak forest. Through this Coming ford led an ancient trade route of the Celts, of Dux after Ústí nad Labem. In the immediate vicinity of the ford to 3 large oppida were: Dux in Bohemia and Doxan and Dohna in Saxony. This oppida were trading centers and mints, which were connected by so-called " way trips ." From Dux led two routes to the East: the "great way trip " ( Languyest ) about Teplitz, Modlan to Usti, the "little way trip " ( Kleinuyest ) over Haan, convent grave, Eichwald, Jüdendorf, Hohenstein in Eulaugrund by Decin. This " little way trip " led directly at the foot of the Ore Mountains and along the lake bottom furtete in the oak forest stream.

Since then possible daily march power amounted to 25 km, it was of Dux by Eichwald and the fords in the oak forest one days march. For this reason, emerged at the ford soon huts and storage sheds to accommodate the locking ends and their goods. These huts may have been in the valley of lake bottom brook the only long time, because only with the increase of trade, and especially when the heyday of mining in the 14th and 15th century colonists were settled by the landlords.

The first written mention of falls in the year 1494, built as Graupener miners near the ford a melting factory for tin. Even in the valley of lake bottom stream ( Flössbach ) Zinngraupen were found. Later wood for the Turner smelters on the pent Flössbach by Turn ( Trnovany ) was floated. Further mining of tin was operated mainly on Glantzberg and on Bornhau where today are found by mouth holes residues.

Eichwald arrived in the 16th century to the reign Teplitz, after which it was the object of continuous disputes between the monastic rule Ossegg and the rule of flour because of major ore deposits.

Due to its location in a V-shaped valley of the Ore Eichwald is protected by the wall of the mountain from the north winds, Eichwald was so because of its pleasant mountain climate, clean air and the beautiful wooded area to a well patronized spa. Around 1860 built the manufacturer Anton Tschinkel a hydropathic establishment. He received the impetus of the balneologists Löschner. By purchasing additional land Tschinkel could expand the spa area, from which later developed into the Theresienbad. The Theresienbad was one of the most famous health resorts in Europe.

Built 1897-1906 in the style of Italian Gothic Church of the Immaculate Conception was a filial church of the parish church Weißkirchlitz, which was built by the prince Clary Aldringens. It is a replica of the Madonna dell'Orto in Venice.

After the Second World War in 1945, most of the German population of Bohemia was expropriated and displaced as a result of the Beneš decrees.

In the years after the reunification of Germany, the city and the leading in the direction of Germany's highway gained dubious notoriety for there, despite later efforts directed against them Czech authorities concentrated prostitution.

The city is characterized by its mineral springs as a health resort, and known porcelain and Majolikaherstellung with imitations of Meissen onion pattern.
