Dubovany

Dubovany ( Dubowan German, Hungarian Dubovany ) is a municipality in western Slovakia with 975 inhabitants (as at 31 December 2011), which belongs to Okres Piešťany, part of Trnavský kraj.

Geography

The municipality is located in the hill country Trnavská pahorkatina (part of the Slovak Danube lowland ), on the terrace of the hall Dudváh. The center is located at an altitude of 154 m nm and is 14 km from Piešťany and 18 km Hlohovecký away.

History

The municipality was created in 1943 by merging the Dubovany places Dolné Dubovany and Horne Dubovany.

Originally these were a lot village, which was mentioned by the latest research for the first time in 1113 in the Zoborská documents as villa Lucinci. Previously, the earliest mention was dated to the year 1278 as Losonc; the village was the seat of a servant of the castle Neutra. Sometime 1378-1452 the village was divided: for a tax register from 1452, there were 10 settlements in Dolné Dubovany, in Horne Dubovany 25 settlements. Both came later under the jurisdiction of the castle Čachtice and Gender Ocskay. In addition to agriculture, there were, according to documents in the 17th century, two Müller.

The first school was built in 1850. 1909 burned down completely both places.

Until 1918, both places were in the county Neutra the Kingdom of Hungary and came after Czechoslovakia and Slovakia today.

Structures

The most important religious building is the Roman Catholic Archangel Michael Church in baroque style. The exact construction year is unknown; but the church was repaired in 1778. The side altar of the Holy Trinity from 1630 has been restored and is now in a church in Piešťany. Around the church is a cemetery with some stone crosses from the 18th and 19th centuries.
