Dudelange Radio Tower

The radio tower Dudelange ( after the official name of the city referred to as transmitter Dudelange ) is a 285 -meter-high free-standing steel framework tower for distribution of TV and FM radio programs on the Ginsterberg in Dudelange, Luxembourg. The radio tower Dudelange was built from 1956 to 1957 and is the second tallest free-standing steel framework tower in Europe.

On July 31, 1981 at 13:36 clock the 300 meter high radio tower Dudelange was hit by a Belgian military plane approximately in the middle and then broke in two. The cascading debris smashed a standing nearby house, killing the living in this house couple. The pilot of the accident machine also died. The radio tower was then rebuilt, but not quite as high as before the accident. The antennas for FM are located at 240 meters above sea level at the transmitting tower and the antennas for DVB- T, respectively in 260 and 285 meters.
