Dudley Senanayake

Dudley Shelton Senanayake ( born June 19, 1911 † 13 April 1973 in Colombo ) was a Sri Lankan politician.

Biography

The eldest son of Don Stephen Senanayake studied post-school at S. Thomas ' College, Mount Lavinia natural sciences at Corpus Christi College, University of Cambridge and then law. After graduation, he was admitted as a lawyer ( barrister ) to the Bar Middle Temple.

On his return to Sri Lanka, he became in 1936 a member of the State Council (State Council) elected and this was to 1946 as a backbencher. In 1946 he succeeded his father's Agriculture Minister (Minister of Agriculture) and Member, founded by this United National Party ( UNP).

After the sovereignty of Sri Lanka on 4 February 1948, he was appointed by his father, who was the first Prime Minister of Sri Lanka on the same day as the Minister of Agriculture in the cabinet.

After the sudden death of his father on March 22, 1952 in a riding accident, he was on March 26, 1952 for the first time himself Prime Minister and held this office until his replacement by his cousin John Lionel Kotalawela on 12 October 1953.

After the parliamentary elections of March 1960 and the victory of his UNP on the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP ) led by Prime Vijayananda Dahanayake he was again on March 21, 1960 Prime Minister. However, he managed to not form a stable government so that only three months later Sirimavo Bandaranaike became his successor as Prime Minister on 21 June 1960.

In the elections in March 1965, the UNP again managed a victory. On March 27, 1965, he was then re- prime minister and held that post until his replacement by Sirimavo Bandaranaike on 29 May 1970 according to the zuvorigen parliamentary elections.

After a long illness he died just three years later.
