Duisburg-Ruhrort–Dortmund railway

The railway line Ruhrort -Dortmund was built by the Cologne -Minden Railway Company (CME ) in order to open up the area north of their original route Ruhr better for mines and industrial plants can.

The route was mostly developed at least two tracks at the time of the Deutsche Reichsbahn, today, two-track, single-track and fully degraded sections alternate. The section of Oberhausen- Sterkrade to Herne was provided 1963-1975 with catenary.

History

For a long time was the main focus of the CME on over regional routes in the Rhineland and Westphalia. With the northern migration of the coal mining industry of the Ruhr to the Emscher the area between two rivers moved more in the interest of the CME.

Starting from the train stations in Herne and tub at their home track, the CME ( hence the name " Cologne -Minden Emscher Valley Railway " ) began the construction of two routes that were ultimately a continuous connection of Ruhrort to Dortmund over long distances along the Emscher.

Tub - Herne

In 1866, the CME had had expanded the busy section between the stations Pluto ( 1869 tub CME, today Wanne-Eickel Hbf) and Herne CME (now Station Herne ) viergleisig. It also sidings like to Pluto mine west of the tub were included.

At this time, railway lines, more than two tracks could have included the new tracks to their regular route and received their kilometer, which was then taken over in the conversion into a separate track.

Tub - Ruhrort

The western Streckenast began the CME in the tub CME station, which was built up in the meantime to a railway junction. The first section to Schalke CME (now operating station Gelsenkirchen- Schalke) was released on November 7, 1871 for freight. Two years later, on November 15, 1873 followed by the second section on Osterfeld CME (now Station Oberhausen- Osterfeld Süd ) to Sterkrade CME (now Station Oberhausen- Sterkrade ). In passenger transport the Sterkrade CME station on the railway line Oberhausen- Arnhem has served since 1856, according tub CME drove the first passenger trains on 1 July 1874.

The last section after Ruhrort CME (today breakpoint Ruhrort ) was opened initially for freight on 1 July 1875 on October 15, 1875 and also to the passenger.

On December 1, in 1878 a direct connection between the branch point and the Grafenbusch Neumühl station was inaugurated, could pass on the freight trains Sterkrade without changing direction.

Herne - Dortmund

Even the eastern Streckenast had previously been applied as siding, in this case, the Erin colliery. This path leads from Herne CME station first several kilometers parallel to the original route. This siding was converted to Castrop Station (city) in a general railway line for freight traffic on 1 December 1874.

By the beginning of 1878, the CME expanded the route then continues on Merklinde (now Dortmund- Bövinghausen ) and Marten CME (now Dortmund- Marten ) to Huckarde CME (now Dortmund- Huckarde North ), where they in the area of Dortmund freight station back on the main line CME to Dortmund (now Dortmund Hbf) is true. As of April 1, 1878 then drove passenger trains between Herne and Dortmund CME CME.

Operation

The section between Dortmund Hbf and Herne is mostly not electrified today and over long distances only single track. It is mainly used in rail passenger transport by regional train RB 43 " Emscher Valley Railway" from Dortmund Hbf to Dorsten.

The largest section between Herne and Oberhausen- Sterkrade today is electrified throughout, to pan -Eickel Hbf and from the branching point North Star through double track, and is almost exclusively used by freight trains.

The regional train RB 44 " The Dorsten " Oberhausen Hbf to Dorsten travel on only the short section between Oberhausen- Osterfeld Süd and branch point Grafenbusch, which is, strictly speaking, a remnant of the Emscher Valley Railway Märkischen.

Current situation

From Oberhausen- Sterkrade train station or from the branch point Grafenbusch to the former Duisburg- Ruhrorter harbor station it has been decommissioned and is now completely broken. On the former track of a pedestrian and cycle path became the Landscape Park Duisburg -Nord created ( "Green Path" ), located on the site of the former railway station of Duisburg- Neumühl a commercial area.
