The train station Oberhausen- Sterkrade is in the middle of the Oberhausen district Sterkrade on the railway line Oberhausen- Arnhem. This is part of the so -called " Betuweroute ", an important freight link between the Ruhr and the Port of Rotterdam.

History

The station was opened on 1 July 1856 by the Cologne -Minden Railway Company (CME ) on the already established on September 1, 1853 railway Oberhausen- Arnhem.

On November 15, 1873, the CME took the route between Schalke after Sterkrade as part of the Emscher Valley Railway in later operation. First used only by freight trains, drove there from July 1, by 1874 passenger trains. Due to the different use of the station was to the separation station.

A year later, on July 1, 1875, the leg was completed after Ruhrort. Through trains still had to build the link from Osterfeld after Neumühl in Sterkrade head making. In the same year, on 15 October 1875 launched the passenger after Ruhrort.

1888 Station building of Cologne-Kalk was transferred to Sterkrade .. This building was heavily damaged in the war. 1952, the construction of the new station building was completed. The building is now owned by a private investor who has settled several shops in it.
