The nearly 500 km ² nature reserve, north to south direction also runs the Weser -Ems - watershed in by the, in his landscape protection area includes, among others, the Dammer Berge, the Dumber (probably at the heart of the Natural Park ), the Stemweder mountain, numerous bogs ( for example, the "Great Moor " and the Oppenweher Moor ) and the "Western transects ".

The nature park Dumber and Dumber is especially the breeding and resting place for migratory birds. Numerous water ditches run through the park area through which the Hunte flows. The large raised bogs have a unique flora and fauna. Finds from the Neolithic Age to point out that people were attracted in prehistoric times by the fertile soil and the species richness and even lived here.

Within the Park, to the west of the Dümmer, is the wind farm Borringhauser Moor. Currently, an extension of the wind farm is planned to the south. As part of this expansion, the old systems to be replaced by new, 200 -meter high wind turbines. Conservationists see this extension extremely critical because the required separation distances of 1000 m to the NATURA 2000 site Dumber not respected and flyways would be adversely affected. In addition, the expansion areas are important resting and Äsungsflächen for birds. NABU ( circle group Vechta) has set out his concerns in a letter to the town of Damme in detail. The significantly higher assets are likely to have an impact, not least on the landscape of the Natural Park, which is determined mainly by broad wetland and meadow areas.
