Duncarron

Duncarron is the full replica of a fortified village dating from the early medieval Scotland. It is the reconstruction of a typical residence of a Scottish Clan Chiefs from the early part of the last millennium. Carrier is the recognized non-profit organization Clanranald Trust for Scotland based in Kincardine / Scotland. Chairman is Charlie Allan. Duncarron located in Carron Valley Forest at the eastern end of the Carron Valley Reservoir near Stirling. The medieval village is being built through the help of volunteers from all walks of life, it is destined to Scottish culture and Scottish heritage through education, active participation and to preserve through conversation and spread.

History

In 1995 the decision was made to recreate an original medieval village to illustrate the life and culture of Scotland at that time. The Trust was established and the proceeds and donations will be taken through the various activities ( Saor Patrol, Combat International, Scottish Federation of Medieval Martial Arts ( SFMMA ) ), flow into this project. To have been able to more than 1,000,000 € will be charged to the construction of Duncarron available. Planning for the project began in 1996. Were archaeologists, historians and architects involved to represent an authentic appearance as possible of the village. At the same time searching for a suitable location and proved successful in Carron Valley Forest. A huge supporter of the film actor Russell Crowe in which the chairman Charlie Allan is a close friend. So he has given the village a battering ram from the movie Robin Hood to the value of 60,000 British pounds. This is where they form one of the exhibits.

Description

Construction work started in 2004. So far, a visitor center and facilities for the volunteers were built. In August 2011, the construction of the stockade was completed. In September 2011 has started with the construction of the houses. In planning are four longhouses, four round houses, three gatehouses, a smithy, a pottery and a medieval hospital with herb garden.
