Victoria de Durango is the capital of the Mexican state of Durango. The present name is composed of the name of the first Mexican President Guadalupe Victoria and the name of the province. It was founded by Conquistador Francisco de Ibarra on July 8, 1563 as Villa de Durango (named after the Spanish city of the same name ).

The city now has about 669,000 inhabitants and is nicknamed "Pearl of the Guadiana ", as in the Valle ( valley ) de Guadiana located. There are several higher education institutions, including several universities, as well as some museums ( on various topics such as the region, Cinema, Archaeology, Modern Art and the Cultural Center ).
