Earl of Warwick

Earl of Warwick (pronounced " Worrick ") is a title of nobility, which was awarded four times in British history and one of the most prestigious title of Britain represents.

First Creation ( 1088)

The medieval earldom was built in 1088 for Henry de Beaumont, the younger son of Roger de Beaumont and brother of Robert de Beaumont, 1st Earl of Leicester. As the feud was hereditary in the female line, the earldom came in the following centuries in the possession of several families. The earldom was traditionally connected to Warwick Castle, and as the 11th Earl restricted the inalienable heritability of the castle on his male descendants, he intended thus probably the same with the earldom itself with the treason trial of Edward Plantagenet, 17th Earl of Warwick, fell into the title.

Second Creation ( 1547)

The next title holder was the powerful politicians and military John Dudley. He was appointed in 1543 created Viscount Lisle in 1547 and then to the Earl of Warwick in the Peerage of England. 1551 finally he was made the Duke of Northumberland. His execution for treason two years later was the awarding of the first and third title forfeited, but not to the Earl of Warwick, so that Dudley's eldest son John and then his brother Ambrose could succeed. With his death the title became extinct 1590th

Third Creation ( 1618)

The Rich family is descended from Richard Rich, a rich merchant, who was sheriff in 1441 the City of London. His great-grandson of Sir Richard Rich was a prominent lawyer and politician, he was inducted in 1547 as Baron Rich of Leez, in the Peerage of England. His son, the second Baron, was the first husband of Catherine Knyvet. Robert Rich, 3rd Baron Rich, son of the 2nd Baron, was in 1618 created Earl of Warwick in the Peerage of England, although the family owned Warwick Castle was not ( see below). His second son, Hon Henry Rich was Baron Kensington in 1623 and in 1624 the Earl of Holland. The 3rd Earl of Warwick, grandson of the 1st Earl, and his brother, the 4th Earl, died without issue, whereby Robert Rich, 2nd Earl of Holland, also of the 5th Earl of Warwick was. The family died in 1759 with the 8th Earl of Warwick from.

Fourth Creation ( 1759)

1746 Francis Greville, 8th Baron Willoughby de Broke, created Earl Brooke, of Warwick Castle, in the Peerage of Great Britain. When the earldom of Warwick in 1759 went out, he was appointed in November of the same year the Earl of Warwick in the Peerage of Great Britain, so that the earldom and Warwick Castle were now back in one hand.
