East Ham tube station

East Ham is an aboveground station London Underground in the London Borough of Newham. It lies on the boundary of Travelcard Zone 3 and 4, on High Street North. In 2011, 13.37 million passengers used the station.

The station has an island platform for trains on the District Line and the Hammersmith & City Line. However, the latter do not operate in the early morning, late evening and on Sundays. A second platform was until 1958 in operation, up to this point took some trains on the railway line Gospel Oak - Barking, East Ham who reached on a now degraded compound curve. Another platform is located on the south side of the parallel railway line that runs to the southeast of Essex. However, it is also no longer used, as the trains of the railway company c2c pass through here without stopping. The station building has retained much of its appearance of the Victorian era, and was restored in 2005. It is since 1999 listed building (Grade II).

On March 31, 1858, the London, Tilbury and Southend Railway ( LT & SR ) opened at this point a train station. The District Line started its operations on June 2, 1902. As of September 30, 1905 East Ham was temporary terminus, as the track was not electrified by Barking; this was the case from 1 April 1908. The Metropolitan Line operated this station the first time on March 30, 1936 ( the branch line towards Barking in 1988 transferred to the Hammersmith & City Line ). 1962 held the last train of the railway.
