History

Filderbahn time

Real thingy first rail connection was made on 12 December 1888 when the Filderbahn Society opened the narrow-gauge steam tramway line Degerloch -Möhringen -Hohenheim. The breakpoint was on Mohringer district, at the Gasthof Landhaus, at the junction of the road from Degerloch to Echterdingen and of Möhringen to Plieningen. The distance to the town itself was about four kilometers. For travelers, a shelter was set up.

On August 22, 1891, the plans for a new range of Möhringen to Echterdingen, the construction of the Foreign Ministry, approved on April 14, 1896 began. The narrow-gauge railway ran from Echterdingen continue to Neuhausen. Their solemn inauguration took place on December 23, 1897, the day after the regular operation began. Also on December 24, 1897 was the station at the track Möhringen -Hohenheim, the term country house. Still be found in the network of the Stuttgart trams AG this name. Due to the route laid in 1906, the existing bus stop is, however, further south.

The Echterdinger station building no longer exists. It was a unit station of type IIIa with a long freight shed. It thus resembled the remaining buildings in Bern Hausen. On the ground floor there were a service room and two waiting rooms, in the two upper floors an apartment. The Umspurung to standard gauge of track Möhringen - Neuhausen was already on 1 November 1902.

Route acquisition and decommissioning

On October 1, 1920, the German Reichsbahn opened the railway line pipe Echterdingen. From the city of Stuttgart, who bought the Filderbahn, they acquired the section Echterdingen Neuhausen. At the same time accounted for the connection of Unteraichen to Echterdingen. On the built in return line from Unteraichen to Leinfelden, presented the Urban Filderbahn passenger traffic in 1922.

The passenger trains to Vaihingen did not have the hoped- feed. The local governments of Echterdingen Leinfelden therefore negotiated with the municipality of Stuttgart, the Reichsbahn and the Stuttgart trams AG concerning the connection after Möhringen. In the spring of 1927, work began and on 31 March 1928, the first overland tram reached the final stop Echterdingen place. The railroad of the Reichsbahn thus lost steadily in importance to the German Federal Railroad ceased passenger services on 1 August 1955.

Reactivation

In the 1960s, the transport expert Professor Walther Lambert carried out investigations for the construction of a rapid transit network, for Stuttgart and the surrounding area. He advocated the reactivation of the route Stuttgart-Rohr -Echterdingen and from there a new road to the airport.

The Federal Railroad began in 1984 with the two-pronged expansion and electrification. The completion took more time than planned and could only take place on April 18, 1993. The old station building was demolished and created the new station as a trough structure. Reasons for this are the introduction to the new route to the airport, avoiding a railroad crossing the main road and the noise. On the western Filderbahnstraße was a new place with six bus platforms ( including two on the main road), as well as two entrances to the station, which has a central platform. A web platform with access at the level of the castle road connects the Filderbahnstraße with the brick road and the residential area in the Gärtlesäckern (1993 still undeveloped ). East of it spans a parking garage, the two tracks.

Railway operation

The breakpoint is serviced by lines S2 and S3 of the Stuttgart S-Bahn. Track 1 serves trains toward the pipe, track 2 which direction Flughafen / Messe.

The Echterdingen station corresponds, according to the Deutsche Bahn AG, the train station category 4
