The Filderstadt station ( until May 28, 1983 Bern Hausen ) is the current terminus of the line from Stuttgart-Rohr. The line S2 of the Stuttgart S -Bahn stops and starts here. The building is part of the airport tunnel Stuttgart. The extension of the line to Neuhausen / Fildern is planned.

History

1891 planned the Filderbahn Society a new railway line from Möhringen to Echterdingen. A the same time established local railway committee, with participants from Neuhausen, Bern Hausen, top and Untersielmingen and Denkendorf wanted by setting Echterdingen a continuation to Zell am Neckar. They continued thus unsuccessful. Instead, the Foreign Ministry on April 14, 1896 approved the establishment of a meter-gauge narrow gauge railway Möhringen - Neuhausen. Their solemn inauguration took place on 23 December 1897. The following day, the regular operation began.

The Bern Bahnhof was built south of the village. The station building from that period is still preserved. There is a train station Württemberg unit of type IIIa, which the Filderbahn Society erected easily changed. The building was home waiting, offices and residential spaces. The goods shed no longer exists. Here the Krautfabrik Briem and the local farmers were loading mainly cabbage in the freight cars. The gauging the track to standard gauge took place on November 1 1902. 1903 took the Sunday trip to traffic, as the Swabian Albverein on the Uhlberg, south of Plattenhardt, opened a new observation tower.

In 1914 a bus line in operation, led by Degerloch about Bernhausen to Nürtingen. She competed for a short time with the Filderbahn, but then had, after the outbreak of the First World War, will be reinstated.

On October 1, 1920, the German Reichsbahn took a new route of pipe to Echterdingen into operation and took over the track section Echterdingen Neuhausen of the Municipal Filderbahn ( SFB). This section remained the property of the SFB, which merged on January 1, 1934 in Stuttgart trams AG ( SSB). From 1925 offered increased truck owners trips to Stuttgart. 1927, the bus connection from Degerloch was again taken to Nürtingen.

1937 began the construction of the commercial airport Stuttgart- Echterdingen. To make room for him, the railway line between Echterdingen and Bernhausen had to be relocated. It ran south of the airport in the future.

After the Second World War, the SSB recorded on their bus line N ( Degerloch - Nürtingen ) further growth. As an improvement to the communities Bernhausen and Sielmingen called for the extension of the tram Möhringen -Echterdingen. This, however, rejected the City Council Stuttgart 1952. The number of travelers on the railway line Stuttgart-Rohr - Neuhausen fell further still. Therefore, the German Federal Railroad decided to carry persons for August 1, 1955 set. The section Leinfelden- Neuhausen used the SSB more for freight.

On January 1, 1975, the municipalities Bernhausen, Bonlanden, Plattenhardt, Sielmingen and Harthausen merged to community Filderstadt Linden, which renamed itself in Filderstadt on July 25th 1975.

In the 1980s, the Federal Railroad saw before to connect the airport to a designed S -Bahn network. To this end, they needed the stretch Stuttgart-Rohr -Echterdingen. It should be double-tracked and electrified. A train service between Leinfelden Neuhausen and therefore was no longer possible. On 28 May 1983, the last freight train operated the Bern Bahnhof. Shortly after the removal of the tracks began. Also for the reception building you saw at first no more use. But the history and Folk Society Filderstadt fought for its preservation.

The continuation of the so-called Airport S-Bahn planned the Federal Railroad already in the 1980s. The final implementation was carried out on 13 February 1998. On this day, the construction of the underground route from the airport station to Bern Hausen began. On 29 September 2001 the German Bahn AG opened a new tunnel station Filderstadt.

The name always causes confusion on foreign passengers. In contrast to other stations and stops the Filderstadt station is not broadcasting the name of the town ( Bernshausen ), but the overall community. The aboveground bus junction is still called Bern Bahnhof.

On 12 November 2011, the station area was given the name Dr. Peter Bümlein Square, in honor of Dr. Peter Bümlein, which over 24 years was mayor of Filderstadt and has contributed significantly to the construction of the S-Bahn to Filderstadt. The bus stop was at the same station renamed in Bern Hausen ( Dr. Peter Bümlein Square), the S- train station is, however, still only Filderstadt.

Building

In Filderstadt no reactivation of the old route took place. Much more built the German Bahn AG an underground building beneath the old railway property. The held in exposed concrete station is designed so that a possible further construction to Neuhausen would be possible.

Passengers arrive on a western and an eastern access to the 210 -meter-long middle platform. The western entrance is like a park, with a gently sloping lawn with a water stair and a sculpture called Filderstadt game created. Also on the platform itself continues the group of sculptures.

2001, the City of Filderstadt the historic station building remodel. In it, a Tourist Information Office and the citizens are housed. With its central location, in the area between the Charles and the Filderbahnstraße, it marks the station.

Railway operation

The station is served by the S-Bahn Stuttgart. The S-Bahn line S2 begins and ends here. The tracks 1 and 2 are alternately used as a departure and arrival track.

The Filderstadt's train station belongs to the category 5 of the Deutsche Bahn AG.
