Edgewater is a city in Volusia County in the U.S. state of Florida with 20,750 inhabitants ( 2010).
Geography
Edgewater is located on the Atlantic Ocean and is bordered to the north directly to the city of New Smyrna Beach. The town is located about 35 km east of DeLand and about 80 km northeast of Orlando.
Demographics
According to the 2010 census, the then 20,750 inhabitants distributed to 9,929 households. The population density was 364 inh. / Km ². 94.1 % of the population were white, 2.6% African American, 0.3% Native American and 0.9 % Asian Americans. 0.5 % were members of other ethnic groups and 1.6% in different ethnic groups. 3.4% of the population were Hispanic or Latino.
In 2010, children under the age of 18 and 38.0 % of all households lived in 26.2 % of all households with persons at least 65 years. 66.6 % of households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or a parent with offspring ). The average size of a household was 2.36 persons and the average family size is 2.79 people.
21.5% of the population were younger than 20 years, 20.3% were 20-39 years old, 28.8 % were 40-59 years old and 29.3% were at least 60 years old. The median age was 47 years. 48.3 % of the population were male and 51.7 % female.
The average annual income was $ 45,493, while 10.2 % of the population lived below the poverty line.
In 2000, English was the mother tongue of 95.33 % of the population spoke Spanish 2.41% and 2.26 % had a different mother tongue.
Traffic
The city is crossed by Interstate 95, U.S. Highway 1 and Florida State Road 442. In addition, the freight railroad of the Florida East Coast Railway runs through the town. The nearest airport is Daytona Beach International Airport ( 30 km north ).
Crime
The crime rate in 2010 was 218 points ( U.S. average: 266 points ) within the average range. There were three rapes, ten robberies, 37 injuries, 199 burglaries, 399 thefts, 35 car thefts and four arson.
