Eduardo Koaik

Eduardo Koaik ( born August 21, 1926 in Manaus, State of Amazonas Brazil; † August 25, 2012 in Piracicaba, State of São Paulo) was a Roman Catholic Bishop of Piracicaba.

Life

Eduardo Koaik, son of Miled José Koaik and Helena Elias Koaik, studied philosophy at the seminary in Rio de Janeiro ( Seminário Arquidiocesano do Rio de Janeiro) and Theology at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome where he was ordained a priest on April 8, 1950. He was professor of fundamental theology and spiritual director of the seminary in Rio de Janeiro. In addition, he held offices in the Ordinariate of the Archdiocese of São Sebastião do Rio de Janeiro, was involved in youth movements and was vicar general.

Pope Paul VI. appointed him on 22 October 1973 Titular Bishop of Noba and Auxiliary Bishop of São Sebastião do Rio de Janeiro. The Archbishop of Rio de Janeiro, Eugênio Cardinal de Araújo Sales, donated to him on January 6, 1974, the episcopal ordination; Co-consecrators were José Alberto Lopes de Castro Pinto, Auxiliary Bishop of São Sebastião do Rio de Janeiro, and Waldyr Calheiros Novaes de Novais, Bishop of Barra do Pirai - Volta Redonda. His episcopal motto was " Construir na Caridade " ( "In Love ").

He was a member of the Commission of the Conference of Latin American Bishops ( CELAM). Koaik was 1991-1995 President of the Regional Sul - 1, of the archdioceses and dioceses of the State of São Paulo in the Brazilian Bishops' Conference ( Conferência Nacional dos Bispos do Brasil, cnbb ) represents.

On 15 May 2002, John Paul II took his on the grounds of age pre- mounted resignation. Koaik died in August 2012 from the effects of a cancer suffering.
